THE NEW ISLAMIC YEAR 1438H
The Hijri New Year (Islamic New Year) is the first day of a new Islamic calendar year. It is observed on the first day of the first month on the Islamic calendar, Muharram.
Hijri got its name in 622 AD, the first Islamic year, when Prophet Muhammad and his followers journeyed from Mecca to Medina. This migration is called Hijrah.
United Arab Emirates consider the Hijri New Year as a public holiday. As such, Islamic businesses and organizations may have different operating hours to make way for celebrations. Crowding around mosques during evening is also to be expected.
