Subject: Happy Mother's Day
The 21st of March of each year marks “Mother’s Day”, a day celebrated in Arabic regions to highlight the significant role of mothers and their never-ending kindness and support.
In Islam, it is required by all sons and daughters to show respect, love and gratitude to their mothers. Many versus from the Holy Quran and the Prophet’s Hadiths state that mothers are of the highest hierarchy in life.
One script from the Hadith states that: “A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim).
“Al-birr” means treating mothers kindly, revering her, obeying her and seeking her consent in matters.
The role of mothers and women -in general- has been highlighted in history and spread among the people with famous sayings such as: "Behind every great man is a great woman."
With their tremendous efforts in raising young generations and individuals who become our heroes, and leaders, we would like to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all mothers!
