Within the framework of Al Falah University’s constant keenness to provide the necessary support in the field of promoting mental health for students and faculty members, the university held a workshop through the “Microsoft Times” program under the title “The Forms of Bullying and Its Effects on Mental Health” presented by Dr. Amjed Abojedi- Psychotherapist and Mental Health Researcher.

The workshop was attended by Al Falah University students, as well as members of the faculty and administrative staff.

Dr. Amjed said, “The impact of bullying on the individual has health, social, and economic consequences, including lack of self-confidence, psychological depression, which may reach the point of self-harm, anxiety, social phobia, and fear of dealing with others, in addition to, significantly lower performance rates in life”

Dr. Abojedi added that the act of bullying exists in all age groups, noting that those who are exposed to bullying are vulnerable to experience feelings of anger, depression, and anxiety.

He noted that bullying today is one of the most prominent and dangerous challenges faced by children and youth alike, especially what is known as electronic bullying, which occurs away from the eyes of parents and family members, due to the prevalence of smart phones, digital platforms, virtual games, and social media.

During the workshop, Dr. Amjed Abojedi listed the various forms of bullying that are prevalent at the present time including: verbal bullying, physical bullying, social bullying, sexual bullying, emotional bullying, cyber bullying, and/ or psychological bullying.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Amjed Abojedi presented solutions to issues of bullying, including strengthening religious faith, ensuring the upbringing of children in healthy conditions away from violence, providing social guide in each institution, and strengthening the communication with human rights organizations, and children protection institutions, in addition to, launching awareness campaigns for all ages about bullying behaviors and forms, and ways to prevent and treat bullying.
