50 local and international astronomical experts convened at the Palazzo Versace Hotel, Dubai through the efforts of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department to set a common standard for issuing the Hijri calendar in the UAE.

Senior Shari’a and scientific figures including Sheikh Dr. Saleh Bin Humaid, Imam and Preacher of Al-Haram Al-Makki, Advisor to the Royal Court and member of the Supreme Council of Islamic Jurists, Sheikh Abdullah Munea, Advisor to the Royal Court, Member of the Supreme Council of Scholars in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Saleh Bin Zaben Al-Marzouqi Secretary General of the Fiqh Academy of the Muslim World League and Prof. Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, President of the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences and Director of the University of Sharjah graced the opening ceremony.

In this forum, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities seeks to unify the lunar month in accordance with the rules of astronomy and does not oppose Sharia through agreed standards to better serve Muslims.
